Outdoor lighting
Outdoor lighting used to be the only area where solar powered lights
were viable and even then they were accused of being too dim.
Now, as you look around, it is likely that you would not be able to
tell the difference normal outdoor lights and those that use solar energy.
There are a few things you can look for that might give away a light
as being solar:
• The housing – When solar lights are used outdoors, there
are some special precautions that need to be taken. In these cases,
the housing needs to be weather-proof in order to allow the light to
work correctly.
The housing should blend in well with the light itself. You do not
want a housing that is boxy and unattractive. You should find a housing
that follows the theme of other items you have outdoors.
• Connections – The connections in outdoor lighting that
employs solar energy separates the high quality lights from the ones
that are of a worse quality.
What this means is that the connections of the circuits inside of the
light will give a more brilliant light than the lights whose circuits
are made with less quality.
• Length of use – If you see a light stay lit up forever,
chances are that it is not solar. Even though solar lights can be bright
and useful, they are usually not capable of staying on for hours and
hours at a time. If your outdoor lighting will be needed for very long
periods of time, the more traditional electricity may be your better
choice.
